Earlier, Nigeria was admitted as a "partner country" of the BRICS bloc of developing economies.
Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago stressed the importance of a new global balance that empowers emerging economies like Nigeria.
"The world order must change, the balance of trade has changed globally," he told Sputnik Africa.
He welcomed the rise of a multipolar world where African countries can assert their sovereignty and have a real voice in shaping international affairs.
"The new order is going to give an opportunity for everybody to be able to discuss and negotiate at a global table, where everybody will have a stake."
Bago emphasized that the shift promises greater independence, fairness, and adherence to true global best practices.
He also highlighted the strategic opportunities Nigeria gains by joining the expanded BRICS platform.
"With Nigeria joining the BRICS, it's an opportunity that would have widened our trade opportunities to the BRICS states," the governor said.
He pointed out that historically Nigeria had limited direct trade with countries like Brazil and Russia — a gap BRICS can now help bridge.
"This kind of collaboration will help Nigeria in terms of [transitioning] to better energy supply and better development."
Bago also emphasized Niger State’s vast resources, including 7 million hectares of land and abundant water bodies, as key assets for future partnerships.

The governor also commended Sputnik in particular for its impact on raising awareness across Africa.
"Sputnik is doing a lot of advocacy in Africa. It has brought awareness," he stated.
Bago emphasized how Russian media has contributed to new opportunities and deeper understanding of global shifts.
"The awareness and the emancipation... a lot has been done through the media space."
Governor Bago expressed gratitude to Sputnik for helping pave the way for Africa’s growing role in global affairs.
