Mozambique to Leverage AfCFTA to Boost Regional Trade, Already Exceeding $7.1 Bln, PM Says
Mozambique officially launched its first AfCFTA shipment from the port of Beira to Kenya, marking a "major milestone in its role within the continental free trade framework," the AfCFTA Secretariat said.
"[The private sector] has the potential to contribute to increasing our current level of trade with the rest of the African continent, which is currently only two percent of Mozambique's total trade," Mozambique News Agency quoted PM Benvinda Levi as saying.
The Mozambican official urged businesses to leverage local logistics corridors like Beira, which connect national, regional, and global markets, for trade expansion.
"This is one of the first steps towards materializing the promise made by President Chapo, when he was inaugurated, to strengthen Mozambique’s strategic commercial position in the regional and global markets, to maximize and diversify the export base, aiming at the structural transformation of our economy," he emphasized.
