Russia Hands Over Two High-Tech Mobile Laboratories to Madagascar to Fight Dangerous Infections
"The labs will enhance Madagascar's ability to respond to biological threats and conduct research directly in infection hotspots," Russia's human welfare watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said.
Key details on the handover:
⦁ Two labs were delivered: one mounted on a GAZ vehicle for off-road use, the other portable (transportable in 16 boxes);
⦁ equipped with modern, high-tech devices for researching dangerous pathogens;
⦁ can conduct biosafe tests in 30 minutes and handle up to 500 tests daily;
⦁ Russian and Madagascar specialists plan to cooperate on plague & other endemic infections research;
⦁ Rospotrebnadzor will host training courses in Antananarivo for local specialists on lab operation.
