Republic of Congo Would Like to Participate in BRICS, President Says
"BRICS projects, in our opinion, are interesting for Africa, and for our country in particular. We think that in this case, Congo will be ready to take its place in BRICS," Denis Sassou Nguesso told the Russian media.
The president said that he took part in a number of BRICS meetings, the last of which was in Russia in 2024.
"We saw that BRICS is opening its doors to other states and is ready to expand. I think this is an important step," Sassou Nguesso noted.
"First of all, we are going to take part in the Victory Day parade on Red Square. Then, I hope, we will hold talks with President Vladimir Putin to review the cooperation between our countries and outline further plans," Sassou Nguesso said in an interview with the African Initiative news agency.
Congo to Develop Rapidly Growing Ties With Russia
"We intend to continue and develop cooperation, for example, in the agricultural sector, as well as in the field of training civilian personnel. Therefore, we believe that relations between Russia and Congo are rapidly gaining momentum and are becoming a continuation of cooperation with the Soviet Union," Nguesso stressed.
Nguesso added that the country is currently increasing cooperation with Russia in the oil sector.
"Russian companies are involved in oil exploration and production in our country. We have a major project with Russia to build an oil pipeline between Pointe-Noire and Brazzaville. In addition, Russia helps us with the training of law enforcement officers, as well as with their equipment," the president said.
