The 1st Forum of Young Diplomats “Russia-Africa” was held at Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) as part of a major event “Russia-Africa: What’s Next?” and overall efforts in the field of the "horizontal" diplomacy.The main theme of the forum was "Victory Diplomacy", dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the end of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. The event began with a large-scale Spartakiad, where Russian diplomats won everyone's attention, winning silver in basketball and demonstrating their strive to win in other disciplines.The opening ceremony was attended by leading Russian government and public figures, including Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who addressed the guests on video.The key sessions of the forum touched upon important contemporary issues, such as the fight against neocolonialism, sports diplomacy and cultural and humanitarian projects. The speakers, among whom was the foreign ministry's spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, focused on the need for a fair world order and strengthening cooperation between Russia and Africa. The forum participants were also able to get acquainted with the cultural attractions of Moscow and honor the memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. The end of the forum was marked by joining the International Association of Young Diplomats, which actively develops international cooperation and already has more than 200 participants from 40 countries.
