12:59 26.04.2025 (Updated: 13:48 26.04.2025) MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The operation to liberate the Kursk Region from the Ukrainian armed forces has been completed, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Armed Forces Vladimir Putin has received a corresponding report, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Saturday.
"Chief of the General Staff of the Russian armed forces Valery Gerasimov has reported to Supreme Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Putin on the completion of the operation to liberate the Kursk Region from Ukrainian neo-Nazis," Peskov said.
The last settlement in the region, the village of Gornal, was liberated on Saturday, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian military Gerasimov added. During the fighting in the Kursk border area, the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost at least 76,000 soldiers and more than 400 tanks.
