'Fees Have Fallen': Namibia to Offer Free Tertiary Education Starting 2026, President Announces
"That means, no registration fees and no tuition fees at all public universities and technical & vocational education centers," Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah said, delivering her first State of the Nation Address.
Key statements by Nandi-Ndaitwah on "quality education and training":
▫the government currently provides free primary and secondary education in all public schools;
▫it provides daily meals to 466,860 learners in public schools to combat hunger and reduce school dropout rates;
▫phased transition to 100% free tertiary education will initially require students to cover accommodation and related costs;
▫free education is a "golden opportunity" for youth to unlock their talents and contribute to the country's development;
▫the investment in youth is aimed at reducing the unemployment rate, which is now at 36.9%.
