Niger Marks 30 Years of National Unity
On Thursday, Niger celebrates the Day of Concord, commemorating three decades since the signing of the 1995 peace agreement that helped end a rebellion in the north of the country.
Key highlights:
🟠Historic Peace Agreement (1995): Signed between the Nigerien government and the Organization of the Armed Resistance, setting the stage for peace despite continued clashes until 1999.
🟠"Flame of Peace" Ceremony (2000): A symbolic final step of the peace process held in Agadez.
🟠Tchintabaraden’s Monument (1997): A Tuareg sword monument symbolizes the end of hostilities and now serves as the centerpiece of annual celebrations.
