Russia’s Anti-Epidemic Aid to Africa: Partnership Over Patronage
Russian aid prioritizes empowering local experts to take ownership of their country’s biological safety, said Anna Popova, head of Rospotrebnadzor, Russia's human welfare watchdog.
In an interview with Sputnik Africa, she explained that Russia’s epidemic response in Africa differs from Western models, focusing on mutual benefit rather than donor interests.
“We share our knowledge, experience, technologies, and laboratories so that each country can recognize threats and learn to take the right steps to protect its people from danger. This is fundamentally important. We work for the host country, [...] unlike those who only act in their own interests.”
