Soviet Triumph in WWII: A Factor in Struggle Against Apartheid

"You choose the Soviet Union to be your partner. So, for us, that was really a great victory, not only for the people of Russia, but even for us because we formed solidarity with them, which led to our freedom in 1990," Prof. Sifiso Mxolisi Ndlovu told Sputnik Africa.

The historian and research professor at the University of South Africa emphasized that this solidarity contributed to South Africa’s liberation and helped establish enduring ties with Russia.

"In 1994 we had the elections, and the people of the Soviet Union are still with us. […] That's the meaning of the great victory of the Soviet people," he said, speaking on the sidelines of the international conference dedicated to this year's 80th anniversary of victory in WWII in Moscow.
