Uganda’s Fertilizer Fix: Cleaner Soil, Better Coffee, Less Waste

A team of Ugandan scientists is turning leather industry waste into a game-changing organic fertilizer—designed especially for coffee farmers.

Lead researcher Simon Peter Musinguzi from Kyambogo University explains:

“This collagen fertilizer... will be one of the climate-smart solutions to help farmers reduce the degradation that is going on by offering a solution that will not tamper with the integrity of the soils,” he told Sputnik Africa.

The innovation tackles two pressing challenges: waste management and soil fertility, while supporting climate-smart agriculture and local food security.
