The Easter truce, declared by Putin on April 19, ended at midnight on April 21. The Russian MoD reported 4,900 violations by Kiev forces. Putin noted Russia’s positive stance on ceasefires and the need to assess the truce's effectiveness.
In an interview with Sputnik Africa, Dr. Ntsikelelo Breakfast, Professor at Nelson Mandela University, didn’t hold back in his response to Ukraine breaching the Easter truce:
“Ukraine is still a puppet of the West... They have allowed themselves to be a weapon of the West against Russia,” he said.
According to Dr. Breakfast, Ukraine’s actions—like breaching truces—reveal a deeper strategy: serving as a Western proxy aimed at weakening Russian sovereignty, while simultaneously portraying itself as the victim.
Furthermore, according to Dr. Breakfast, Ukraine’s actions undermined hopes for a negotiated pause in the conflict, and only deepen what he sees as a “very deep-rooted” conflict with long-term consequences.
“The losers are going to be Ukraine, as opposed to the Russians,” he concluded.
