Vladimir Putin held on Saturday a meeting with Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov to discuss the situation on the front line.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared an Easter truce within the framework of the special military operation, which will take effect at 16:00 GMT on Saturday, the Kremlin reported.
The president ordered all military actions to be stopped for the duration of the truce.

"Guided by humanitarian principles, the Russian side declares an Easter truce [...] spanning Sunday to Monday. I order to halt all military operations for this period," he stated.

Russia assumes that the Ukrainian side will follow its example and stop hostilities. At the same time, Russian troops must be ready to give an immediate response to Kiev's actions during the ceasefire, the president pointed out.

"Our troops must be ready to repel any potential truce violations, provocations, or aggressive actions by the enemy. As you [Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov] have reported, the Kiev regime has breached the agreement not to target energy infrastructure over a hundred times. Therefore, I ask you to maintain the utmost attentiveness and readiness to respond swiftly and decisively to any threats," Putin said.

The course of the ceasefire will show if Kiev is ready to resolve the conflict peacefully, the Russian leader added.

"Our decision on the Easter truce will show how sincere the readiness of the Kiev regime is and its desire, and even its ability to comply with the agreements, to participate in the process of peace talks aimed at eliminating the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis," he said.

Russia welcomes the desire of the United States and its President, Donald Trump, for a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine crisis, the president added.
"For our part, we have always been ready for them [peace talks] and in every way welcome the aspirations of the US side, President Trump, our Chinese friends, the Chinese president [Xi Jinping], the BRICS countries, all supporters of a fair, peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian crisis," Putin continued.
The Russian army "steadily moves forward step by step," he stated.
The Russian top official also instructed Chief of Staff Gerasimov to report separately when the territory of the Kursk region will be completely cleared of the enemy.
The "Sever" (North) battlegroup is on the offensive to liberate areas of the Kursk region; the main part of the territory has been liberated, Gerasimov reported.

"The "Sever" battlegroup is conducting an offensive to liberate the areas of Kursk Region where the Ukrainian armed forces invaded. The bulk of the territory of the region, where there was an invasion, has now been liberated - this is 1,260 square kilometers, 99.5%. There are still two areas where fighting is going on. These are the areas of the settlements of Oleshnya and Hornal. They are located directly near the border with Ukraine," he said.

Having failed in the Kursk border area, the Ukrainian forces attempted to make a breakthrough into the Belgorod region; the attempts were foiled, with the areas where the Ukrainian troops tried to enter the region isolated, the Russian chief of staff added.
