‘Where Would We Be If Not the Soviets?’ A Ugandan Volunteer Calls Out the West’s Rewriting of WWII History

Jane Monday, a Ugandan legal researcher born in the Soviet Union, is using her voice and heritage to set the record straight about the real heroes of World War II.

As part of Uganda’s Victory Volunteers, she’s helping preserve Soviet memory ahead of the 80th anniversary of Victory Day.

Jane believes the West deliberately downplays the USSR’s role in WWII.

“The West tries to write the history to downplay the role that was played by the Soviet Union… which is basically political propaganda. […] So the program [in Uganda] is basically bringing the truth to light,” she told Sputnik Africa.

Through youth camps, film screenings, and public education, she’s working to restore historical truth and inspire gratitude.

“If it was not for their bravery, where would we be?… A ‘Thank You’ goes a long way.”
