The memorandum of understanding aims to strengthen bilateral ties and enhance cooperation in geology, mining, and mineral processing, according to Nigerian Mines Minister Dele Alake.
"Oil and gas sector is the most revenue earner and to export in the country. Thus, other productive sectors, such as mining, have not been developed to their full potential," the official said at the meeting with his South African counterpart Gwede Mantashe.
Nigeria's key commodities targeted for development include bitumen, iron ore, coal, barites, limestone, lead-zinc, and gold, Alake pointed out.
This partnership "would drive mutual economic benefits, contributing to the sustainable growth of Africa's mining industry through shared development, increased trade, investment, and technical collaboration," said Mantashe.
