American Roots of German Nazism, Part 6: Karl May, Hitler's Literary Mentor

"How did Hitler know about the US and Indian wars? From the adventure novels of the German writer Karl May, in which the struggle of white settlers against Native Americans is vividly depicted," historian Yegor Yakovlev told Sputnik.
According to him, these adventures showed the young Hitler that no matter how positive the Native American heroes were, "the white man is all-powerful, and it is his destiny to exterminate the inferior races."
However, this twisted conclusion is Hitler's own, as Karl May himself never expressed this idea in his works.
In this video from an exclusive Sputnik series, the historian, who studies the origins and evolution of Nazism, explains how the German writer’s works influenced the xenophobic ideas of the future Nazi fuhrer.
