Earlier, the media reported that the Ukrainian authorities invited European leaders and high-ranking officials to visit Kiev on May 9 in order to divert attention from the Victory Parade in Russia.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, called the possible invitation of the Ukrainian authorities to EU leaders to come to Kyiv on May 9 "theatre of the absurd".

"The theater of the absurd. For more than ten years now, these two words have characterized the majority of events, steps, statements that we hear and see from the so-called collective West and all those who swear allegiance to it," the diplomat told Sputnik regarding Ukraine's invitation to European leaders to visit Kiev on May 9 and EU diplomat Kaja Kallas' warnings about attending Moscow's Victory Parade.

The diplomat questioned why Zelensky invited EU leaders to Kiev on May 8 instead of May 9. Zakharova pointed out that Zelensky had previously opposed and marginalized the May 9 Victory Day celebrations in favor of the Western European commemoration on May 8. This difference in dates reflected the time difference that placed Germany's surrender on different dates in different time zones.
