Ethiopian Government Announces Nearly $1.6 Million in Subsidies to Stabilize Macroeconomy
The government has announced 211.2 billion birr (about $1.6 million) in subsidies for fertilizers, medicines, oil, fuel, wages and safety nets for the first nine months of the current fiscal year to achieve stable macroeconomic productivity and competitiveness.
This was announced during a discussion on the implementation of the nine-month plan of the current fiscal year by the Ministry of Irrigation and Lowland Areas.
The ministry’s report also indicated that several large irrigation projects, including Megech, Wolmel, Chelchel, Gode, Kesem and Tendaho, have shown significant progress and effectiveness in the past nine months.
