‘In the Heat of Competitive Russophobia’: Russian MFA Slams West's Silence on Sumy Strike Scandal
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused Ukraine of using civilians as “human shields” and the EU of ignoring evidence of Kiev's war crimes.
“[The West] tried to use any pretext to harm relations with our country,” Zakharova said, pointing to accusations against Russia despite Ukrainian outrage over military decisions that endangered women and children.
She noted that even Ukrainian officials demanded accountability.
“And when it became clear that local authorities had deliberately used children to shield these vultures, everyone suddenly fell silent,” the spokeswoman noted.
Zakharova said that Zelensky’s dismissal of the Sumy region’s military head amounted to an admission of guilt, yet Western leaders and the UN continue to blame Russia while ignoring Kiev’s actions.
ℹ Last Sunday, the Russian military carried out strikes aimed at the location where the Ukrainian army command staff was gathered in Sumy. More than 60 soldiers were eliminated, the Russian MoD reported.
