Zimbabwe Approves National Energy Compact to Expand Electricity Access by 2030
Aligned with the "Mission 300" goal of the Dar es Salaam Declaration, which Zimbabwe signed in January 2025, the initiative outlines a strategic roadmap to achieve universal access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable electricity.
Unveiled by Energy Minister July Moyo at a recent Cabinet meeting, the plan addresses key challenges such as aging infrastructure, power supply gaps, and limited access in rural areas.
The plan focuses on five strategic pillars:
🟠Expanding generation and infrastructure;
🟠Strengthening regional integration;
🟠Promoting distributed renewable energy and clean cooking;
🟠Catalyzing private sector investment;
🟠Ensuring financial viability of utilities.
Zimbabwe aims to electrify 3.1 million households and achieve 70% access to clean cooking by 2030, according to the government.
