Slavery Reparations Movement at "Defining Moment," Says CARICOM Official
The fight for slavery reparations has reached a crucial stage, Hilary Brown, an official from the Caribbean Community, said at a UN forum, calling for more action to hold former colonial powers accountable.
Brown noted the strengthened alliance between CARICOM and the African Union (AU) gives the reparations movement a unified voice to demand action.
She stated that together, they could promote the reparations agenda at the UN and other intergovernmental bodies, co-sponsor a joint resolution on reparations, and advocate for a high-level political forum on the issue.
"CARICOM is ready to take this agenda to the next level, and we welcome the partnership of the AU and other coalitions that share the vision and conviction necessary to ensure that Europe is held to account," Brown stated.
