This time, Sputnik Africa had an interview with South Africa’s Minister of International Relations in a rather unconventional setting—Moscow’s Novodevichy Cemetery—where anti-apartheid heroes Moses Kotane and J. B. Marks used to be buried.
South Africa's Foreign Minister Ronald Lamola stressed the vital importance of countries working together on global platforms while responding to a question from Sputnik Africa about Trump's new tariff policies.
“Looking into other aspect of geopolitics to continue to work together, to collaborate at the various platforms, BRICS, G20, the United Nations as the prime multilateral platform, particularly in this age where unilateralism is raising its head again,” he said.
He further noted that South Africa is firmly focused on tackling the challenges confronting the Global South at the G20, particularly those concerning the financial system.

Speaking of G20, Lamola is urging the G20 to place Africa's needs at the forefront, emphasizing the pressing gaps in climate and development financing.
Leveraging South Africa's presidency of the bloc, the country aims to amplify Africa's voice on the global stage.
“As we speak today, the African continent only receives less than 3% of the global financing on climate change,” he said. “There must be more money going to development than to wars.”
Lamola also stressed how important it is for Africa to have a voice on the world stage and to be actively involved in shaping developments in innovation and artificial intelligence.
