Algeria Protests Detention of Consular Agent by France in Connection With Kidnapping Case
The Algerian Foreign Ministry called the detention an "unacceptable and unjustified development [that] will severely damage Algerian-French relations" and vowed consequences.
According to French media reports, the agent is under investigation for the kidnapping of Amir Boukhors, who Algeria describes as a "saboteur linked to terrorist groups."
Relations between France and Algeria, already strained for decades, worsened last July after French President Emmanuel Macron endorsed Moroccan autonomy for Western Sahara.
