US 'Reciprocal' Tariffs May Trigger Humanitarian Crisis, Chinese Commerce Minister Says
As the US tariff on imports from China currently stands at 145%, Beijing will increase tariffs on US goods to 125%, the State Council Committee of China stated on Friday.
"Reciprocal" tariffs by the United States will cause enormous harm to developing countries and could trigger a humanitarian crisis, Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao said in a conversation with World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
"'Reciprocal' tariffs by the United States will cause enormous harm to developing countries, especially the least developed countries, and could even trigger a humanitarian crisis," Wang said.
