Trade Escalation With China Will Lead to 'Something Positive,' Trump Says
Beijing will only negotiate with the US on equal footing and with mutual respect, the Chinese Embassy in Washington told Sputnik, urging an end to threats and economic pressure. It emphasized that trade wars have no winners.
US President Donald Trump said trade escalation with China will lead to "something positive."
"I think something positive is going to come out of it," Trump told reporters.
"We're in a very good position," he noted, adding that his administration is "talking to a lot of countries" on tariff negotiations.
The US president also said that he has always had a good relationship with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
The dollar will remain the main choice in trade despite the trade escalation, according to him.
"We're the currency of choice. We're always going to be… I think the dollar is tremendous," Trump pointed out.
