US Exempts Chip-Based Tech Imports From New Tariffs
"All products that are properly classified in these listed provisions will be excluded from the reciprocal tariffs," the updated guidance on tariffs seen by Sputnik reads.
The document lists 20 identification codes for various electronic devices, including laptops, tablets, smartphones, modems, external hard drives, flash cards, monitors, transistors, converters and other semiconductor-based devices.
The exemptions are retroactive to April 5, although the document is dated April 11. Importers will need to provide the codes while declaring their devices at customs to be exempt from the new tariffs, according to the document.
