On 15 April 2023, armed clashes between the Rapid Support Forces and the regular army in the Sudanese capital Khartoum were reported. Later, the fighting between the military forces spread to other Sudanese regions.

Lavrov arrived in Turkey on Friday to attend Antalya Diplomacy Forum. The Russian Foreign Ministry said that Lavrov planned to address the forum and hold a number of bilateral meetings on its margins.
Lavrov Met With Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Youssef Ahmed Alsharif on the Sidelines of the Forum
The key points of the meeting, according to the Sudanese MFA:
Alsharif updated Lavrov about the situation in Sudan and highlighted the military success in retaking the capital, Khartoum. He noted the government’s commitment to restoring security in the country;
The ministers hailed good relations and coordination between the two countries;
There are plans to hold joint ministerial committee meetings in Port Sudan later this month;
Lavrov reiterated support for Sudan in the international arena, especially in the UN Security Council;
Russia is considering increasing scholarships to Sudanese students to support education and training in Sudan.
"The sides had an in-depth discussion on the situation in Sudan, focusing on the prospects of settling the ongoing military and political crisis there," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Lavrov called for the soonest end to the armed conflict between the regular Sudanese army and the rebel Rapid Support Forces and the start of a nationwide dialogue to establish a durable peace in Sudan.
"The ministers also discussed several issues related to the further development of Russian-Sudanese cooperation in various spheres and called for maintaining an active political dialogue and strengthening bilateral coordination at the United Nations and other international platforms," the statement read.
The 4th Diplomacy Forum is held in Antalya from April 11-13. The theme of this year's edition is "Reclaiming Diplomacy in a Fragmented World."
