Zambia to Resume Power Line Project Linking East Africa
The long-awaited Zambia–Tanzania Interconnector Project will be restarted this month, aiming to link the Southern and Eastern African power pools by 2028.
The $320 million project will boost regional energy trade, lower electricity costs, and improve energy security.
An integrated market would help lower electricity costs and increase energy security, according to Achim Fock, World Bank Country Manager for Zambia.
The project had stalled due to COVID-19 and Zambia's 2020 debt default but is now moving forward following a restructuring deal with bondholders.
