Witkoff's current visit is his third to Russia, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Russian reporter Pavel Zarubin.
The topic of the meeting between Russian President Putin and US Special Envoy Witkoff was aspects of the Ukrainian settlement, the Kremlin reported.
The meeting lasted 4.5 hours.
Putin and Wittkoff's negotiations in St. Petersburg were held in a closed format, Peskov said.
Prior to that, the spokesman stated that Putin's meeting with Witkoff is an opportunity for Russia to convey its concerns to US President Donald Trump.
Commenting on the negotiations process earlier in the day, Trump said that Russia "has to get moving" to settle the conflict in Ukraine because too many people are dying every week.
"Russia has to get moving. Too many people are DYING, thousands a week, in a terrible and senseless war - A war that should have never happened, and wouldn’t have happened, if I were President!!!" he wrote in a Truth Social post.
