Africa is embracing artificial intelligence in sectors long seen as traditional—radio and agriculture. With rapid digital shifts underway, innovators are now turning to AI to address long-standing gaps in access, transparency, and productivity.
In Nigeria, entrepreneur Dozy Mmobuosi has developed what he describes as Africa’s first fully AI-powered radio station, operating entirely without human broadcasters. He said the aim was to create a fairer and more efficient media platform by eliminating human bottlenecks in content and ad placement.Turning to agriculture, Mmobuosi explained that Tingo’s AI-driven agritech platform is designed to bridge the knowledge gap by providing localized farming information and market access tools. In Nigeria, entrepreneur Dozy Mmobuosi has developed what he describes as Africa’s first fully AI-powered radio station, operating entirely without human broadcasters. He said the aim was to create a fairer and more efficient media platform by eliminating human bottlenecks in content and ad placement.
“We are now democratizing access for creators who can immediately push their songs, their videos to our library. We also have a station where small advertisers, SMEs [small and medium enterprises], can immediately put their products on our radio. With our Generative AI model, you can just simply create your own radio ad [advert]. So you can now understand that having humans all over the place is what is stalling Africa from growing. But here we are saying, look, we’re going to create this and ensure that there is transparency, there is proper democracy in the creative space,” Mmobuosi stressed.
Turning to agriculture, Mmobuosi explained that Tingo’s AI-driven agritech platform is designed to bridge the knowledge gap by providing localized farming information and market access tools. He emphasized the role of AI bots in delivering extension services to smallholder farmers.
“About over a decade ago, I first had a meeting with the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria. So you need to have proper research, but again, when research is done, how do you then communicate to these farmers? Our bots, for instance, are going to be interacting with farmers and providing agricultural extension services and then also providing a marketplace where their produce will be sold,” he said.
