A guy hilariously reacts to popular summer foods as a true Xhosa person – ice cream and fruit salad? Hayi suka!

But amasi (fermented milk) and umphokoqo (maize meal crumbly pap)? Yebo, please!

The Xhosa aren’t alone in their love for fermented goodness. In Russia, we’ve got our own quirky summer dish – okroshka – a cold soup made with kefir (very similar to amasi) or kvass (a fermented bread drink), mixed with cucumber, dill, eggs, and sausage.

And just like Xhosa folks can’t agree on whether to add sugar to amasi and umphokoqo, Russians are forever debating: kefir or kvass?
