Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe Supports Sanctions Against Sputnik, RT
Russian media outlets Sputnik and RT, among others allegedly spread "disinformation and propaganda," the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, which advocates for freedom of speech, claimed in a resolution.
The situation for Russian media in the West has become increasingly complicated in recent years. The EU has imposed several packages of sanctions against them, including blocking access to the assets of Sputnik's parent media group, Rossiya Segodnya.
Sanctions against Russian media contradict the West's international obligations to guarantee free access to information and media pluralism and constitute political censorship, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
