Oil Exports: Ghana Discusses Tariffs With Washington
The black gold, which accounts for 60% of Ghana's exports to the US, will not be affected by the new tariffs, according to a statement from the country's Foreign Affairs Ministry following a meeting between the minister and US Ambassador Virginia Palmer.
"The US Ambassador indicated that the tariff did not maliciously target Ghana, but was intended to address the significant trade imbalances between the USA and its partners such as Ghana," the release added.
Other possible exemptions were discussed, particularly for cocoa.
