Woman Who Was 'Stateless' for 30 Years Awarded South African Citizenship
A South African court has finally granted citizenship to Primrose Modisane, 36, after years of bureaucratic hurdles and what she described as hostile treatment from the Department of Home Affairs (DHA).
Despite being born in Zimbabwe to a South African lineage, Modisane, a mother of two, was deemed "stateless" due to her mother's undocumented status.
The DHA initially opposed her application but later failed to provide any defense, leading the court to order the issuance of her birth certificate and ID and to pay punitive costs.
