Shuwalid Festival Wraps Up in Ethiopia’s Harar
Today marks the final day of Shuwalid, a vibrant three-day festival celebrated by the Harari people of Ethiopia.
Held after six days of fasting to compensate omissions during Ramadan, the event brings together all generations at historic shrines in Harar for prayers, music, dance, and blessings.
More than a spiritual celebration, Shuwalid preserves cultural heritage, promotes unity, a sense of identity, and supports local artisans—keeping Harari traditions alive for future generations.
