Mozambique Celebrates Women's Day
April 7 is dedicated to Josina Machel, a prominent Mozambican freedom fighter who lived from 1945 to 1971.
On this day, Mozambicans commemorate the role of women in the country's struggle for independence with festivities featuring traditional music, dancing, and singing, as well as flower-laying ceremonies at the Heroes' Monument in the capital and other cities.
President Daniel Chapo and his wife traveled to the Nangade district to lead the ceremony marking Mozambican Women's Day.
The day concludes with the official launch of the Unity Torch Walk.
