Rebel Linked to France and Ukraine Reportedly Detained by Nigerien Military
Inkinan Ag Attaher, a top figure in Mali’s Azawad Liberation Front (FLA) rebel group and ex-Malian army officer, reportedly sent FLA fighters to Ukraine for training and brought Ukrainian instructors to Mali.
In 2022, he allegedly shared intel with Daesh* during attacks on civilians in Mali.
Mali has faced a political and security crisis since jihadist and separatist rebellions erupted in the north of the country in 2012.
In recent years, Sahelian countries, including Mali, have stepped up their anti-terrorism efforts, diversifying their military partnership to include Russia and turning away from Western nations they accuse of supporting terrorists.
