Recent Russia-AES Meeting Represents Gradual Recognition of Geopolitical Reality in Sahel
Many bilateral and multilateral actors are gradually beginning to recognize the geopolitical reality that the AES represents today as an important actor in working to satisfy the interests of African populations, Malian Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop told Sputnik, following a diplomatic meeting held in Moscow in early April.
Mali believes this diplomatic meeting is an important step towards strengthening ties between the countries, the minister noted.
During discussions, the foreign ministers of Russia, Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso agreed to formalize this consultation mechanism. They pledged to meet at least once a year, alternating between Russia and the AES countries as hosts.
