Russian Nuclear Giant Rosatom Contributes to Africa's Energy Security: Energy Chamber Head
Rosatom's active investment in African nuclear energy will help provide the continent with stable electricity, Nj Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber, told Sputnik.
He highlighted the company's major nuclear project in Egypt (El Dabaa), noting that Rosatom is also studying projects in South Africa and other sub-Saharan African countries.
Ayuk noted that 600 million Africans still lack access to electricity, while 900 million lack access to basic cooking technologies.
According to him, some African countries may opt for small modular reactors, which contribute to energy production, given the lack of large projects such as the El Dabaa nuclear power plant, built by Rosatom. These facilities would be cheaper and more profitable.
