#GlobalSouthPole takes on Africa’s digital and agricultural transformation! Is Africa ready to own its online presence and reshape its agricultural economy?
Dr. Gilead Okolonkwo believes it’s time for Africans to stop being just users of foreign technology and start building their own digital and economic ecosystems. To make this a reality, he founded MYNGUL, Africa’s first Pan-African social media network, to give Africans control over their online narratives. He also launched BeepAgro, an agritech platform that connects farmers directly to buyers, cutting out middlemen and ensuring fair trade.
"The reality is that we have always consumed technology from outside Africa. We have been the users, the audience, the data points but never the architects. MYNGUL is about shifting that paradigm. It’s about creating a digital ecosystem where Africans are not just participants but also decision-makers, innovators, and beneficiaries of their own online experiences," Dr. Okolonkwo said.
On agriculture, he added, "The biggest challenge for African farmers is not production; it’s access. They grow crops, but where do they sell them? Who controls the market? BeepAgro is about putting that power back into their hands."
