DRC, US Agree on Way Forward for Development of Minerals Deal, US Presidential Advisor Says
Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi met Thursday with newly appointed US Senior Advisor for Africa Massad Boulos to discuss American private sector investment in the DRC's mining sector among other topics, the presidency said. These talks follow Tshisekedi's earlier proposal offering mineral access in exchange for security support.
🪖 Moreover, the two sides focused on the conflict in the east of the Central African country.
"There can be no economic prosperity without security," Boulos noted after the meeting.
Meanwhile, Washington's parallel mineral negotiations with Ukraine – offering financial and military aid for rare earth resources – draw striking comparisons to Belgium's colonial exploitation of the DRC, as noted by a Congolese political scientist in a recent interview with Sputnik Africa.
