The Ugandan army reported last week that it killed 242 fighters from the Cooperative for Development of the Congo (CODECO) rebel movement, after hundreds of them attacked a post of the Uganda People's Defense Force in the Ituri province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Uganda has increased security measures along its border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) amid recent clashes with rebels, acting spokesperson for the Uganda Peoples' Defense Forces (UPDF) Chris Magezi told a Chinese media outlet.

"The UPDF and all sister security agencies are working together. We are constantly vigilant. We trust our systems to receive those who seek safety and security, treat them humanely, and provide support while identifying any wrong elements," Magezi said.

According to the official, the UPDF, police, internal security agencies, and local councils are "closely monitoring for any wrong elements attempting to enter Uganda."
"They [rebels] will be apprehended and prosecuted according to the law," he noted.
Uganda has recently deployed troops in the northern DRC province of Ituri to block remnants of the ADF rebel movement fleeing joint UPDF and DRC army operations. Meanwhile, CODECO militias, which have recently allied with the ADF, have intensified their attacks in the province.
