The US Commerce Department imposed export restrictions on 70 companies from South Africa, China, Pakistan, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates due to their alleged activities contrary to the US national interests, according to the Bureau of Industry and Security's (BIS) final rule that is scheduled to be published on Friday. The South African companies were included to the list due to "links to the Test Flying Academy of South Africa (TFASA) and the training of Chinese military forces using Western and NATO sources," the BIS said, adding that the TFASA was added to the restrictions list in June 2023. Additionally, the US Commerce Department has included a number of Pakistani companies, as well as Chinese entities, on its export control list due to their suspected "contributions to Pakistan’s unsafeguarded nuclear activities," the BIS said. The document also stated that several Chinese companies have been included on the list for their suspected acquisition of US-origin items linked to quantum technology, which could pose risks to US national security. On Tuesday, Fox Business reported that Chinese officials are scheduled to meet with US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on Wednesday to address tariffs and trade barriers, among other topics.

US Imposes Restrictions on 70 Companies From South Africa, China, Pakistan, UAE and Iran
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - The US Department of Commerce added three South African companies to its export restriction list, citing "activities contrary to US national interests": Ascenso Aviation, Blue Sky Aviation, and Wingman Concept.
The US Commerce Department imposed export restrictions on 70 companies from South Africa, China, Pakistan, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates due to their alleged activities contrary to the US national interests, according to the Bureau of Industry and Security's (BIS)
final rule that is scheduled to be published on Friday.
"In this final rule, BIS amends the Export Administration Regulations by adding 70 entities to the Entity List, under the destinations of China, People’s Republic of (China) (42); Iran (2); Pakistan (19); South Africa (3); and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) (4). These entities have been determined by the US Government to be acting contrary to the national security or foreign policy interests of the United States," the document reads.
The
South African companies were included to the list due to "links to the Test Flying Academy of South Africa (TFASA) and the training of Chinese military forces using Western and NATO sources," the BIS said, adding that the TFASA was added to the restrictions list in June 2023.
"For these entities, BIS imposes a license requirement for all items subject to the Export Administration Regulation and will review license applications under a presumption of denial," the final rule read.
