Cassava Technologies, founded by Zimbabwean telecoms entrepreneur Strive Masiyiwa, announced on Tuesday that it plans to launch Africa's first AI factory — a powerful and super-secure data center facility powered with US-based NVIDIA tech giant's AI computing technology. The AI factory will use NVIDIA's accelerated computing platforms and AI software, which will initially be deployed in South Africa by June, with future expansions planned for Egypt, Kenya, Morocco, and Nigeria, Cassava Technologies said in a statement.By providing access to NVIDIA's powerful graphics processing units and software, the project will facilitate faster learning of AI models in Africa, driving innovation and strengthening the continent's digital independence, Cassava Technologies added.Notably, the company announced the launch of its AI business unit in early August last year.

The initiative aims to empower African businesses, governments, and researchers with access to "cutting-edge AI computing capacity," enabling them to develop AI solutions, improve efficiency, and boost competitiveness, Zimbabwe-rooted digital solutions company Cassava Technologies said.
Cassava Technologies, founded by Zimbabwean telecoms entrepreneur Strive Masiyiwa, announced on Tuesday that it plans to launch Africa's first AI factory — a powerful and super-secure data center facility powered with US-based NVIDIA tech giant's AI computing
technology.
"Building digital infrastructure for the AI economy is a priority if Africa is to take full advantage of the fourth industrial revolution. Our AI Factory provides the infrastructure for this innovation to scale, empowering African businesses, startups and researchers with access to cutting-edge AI infrastructure to turn their bold ideas into real-world breakthroughs — and now, they don’t have to look beyond Africa to get it," Masiyiwa stated.
The AI factory will use NVIDIA's accelerated computing platforms and AI software, which will initially be deployed in South Africa by June, with future expansions planned for Egypt, Kenya, Morocco, and Nigeria, Cassava Technologies said
in a statement."Cassava's AI factory will leverage the company’s pan-African high-speed, ultra-low-latency, fiber-optic network with sustainable data center to deliver AI as a Service (AIaaS). Cassava’s world-class data centers are designed to be energy efficient, using less electricity to power AI computing workloads," the statement read.
By providing access to NVIDIA's powerful graphics processing units and software, the project will facilitate faster learning of
AI models in Africa, driving innovation and strengthening the continent's digital independence, Cassava Technologies added.
Notably, the company announced the launch of its AI business unit in early August last year.
