The Safari Rally, held about 90 kilometers northwest of Nairobi, attracted record attendance this year, with tens of thousands flocking to witness the thrilling race unfold along its routes and at the first-ever Rally Village at Morendat Farm.
Kenyan President William Ruto
praised the successful conclusion of the 2025 World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally during a closing ceremony in Naivasha.
Addressing the spectators,
Ruto expressed gratitude to both local and international fans for their role in making the event unforgettable.
"To those who traveled from across our borders to those who joined us from within Kenya, your presence has made this rally a truly special and unforgettable experience," he said.
The 2025 edition marked a significant milestone, as organizers opened up the event to more spectators than ever before since its readmission to the WRC calendar in 2021. President Ruto highlighted the importance of such
global events for Kenya’s economy and international reputation.
"This rally, along with other major global events such as the African Nations Championship, Africa Cup of Nations, and Kenya Open, is ample demonstration that Kenya is more than capable of hosting world-class sporting events," he stated.
He emphasized that these activities are vital drivers of economic growth and pledged continued government support for similar initiatives.
During the ceremony, President Ruto awarded prizes to the top performers of the rally. Elfyn Evans from the UK took home the winner's trophy, followed by Estonia's Ott Tanak as the runner-up and Belgium's Thierry Neuville securing third place. Carl Tundo, finishing 15th overall, was celebrated as the highest-placed Kenyan competitor.
