The conflict in Ukraine is closer to peace than ever before, US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz said on Sunday. Washington believes that the next step to peace in Ukraine will be discussions about "the Line of Control, which is the actual front lines," the US official added. Last Tuesday, Russian President Putin spoke over the phone to US President Trump. The Kremlin said that Trump had proposed that both sides pause attacks on energy facilities for 30 days. Putin immediately ordered a halt to strikes. Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky said that Kiev would back the proposal. Despite this, the Russian Defense Ministry said that Ukrainian drones attacked an oil depot in southwestern Russia just hours after the phone call between Putin and Trump.

Conflict in Ukraine Closer to Peace Than Ever Before, US National Security Advisor Says
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - Russian and US technical teams are meeting in the Saudi capital Riyadh on Monday for talks that are expected to be devoted to the Black Sea Grain Initiative. US negotiators reportedly met with Ukrainian officials in Riyadh on the day before the scheduled meeting with Russian officials.
The conflict in Ukraine is closer to peace than ever before, US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz said on Sunday.
"We're moving closer, and we're closer to peace than we ever have been... And the progression will be, we have this ceasefire on aerial infrastructure that went in place immediately after [US] President [Donald] Trump's call with [Russian] President [Vladimir] Putin this week; we are now going to talk about a Black Sea maritime ceasefire, so that both sides can move grain, fuel and start conducting trade again in the Black Sea," Waltz told the CBS News broadcaster.
Washington believes that the next step to peace in Ukraine will be
discussions about "the Line of Control, which is the actual front lines," the US official added.
"And that gets into the details of verification mechanisms, peacekeeping, you know, freezing the lines where they are," Waltz specified.
Last Tuesday, Russian President Putin spoke over the phone to US President Trump. The Kremlin said that Trump had proposed that both sides pause attacks on energy facilities for 30 days. Putin immediately ordered a halt to strikes. Ukraine's Volodymyr
Zelensky said that Kiev would back the proposal. Despite this, the Russian Defense Ministry said that Ukrainian drones attacked an oil depot in southwestern Russia just hours after the phone call between Putin and Trump.
