Namibia Holds First Female President Nandi-Ndaitwah's Inauguration

WINDHOEK (NAMPA) - Namibia has inaugurated the country's first female president, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, after her victory in last year's elections, where she secured 58 percent of the vote.
The historic inauguration of Namibia’s first female President, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, is took part at State House in Windhoek, coinciding with the country’s 35th Independence Day celebrations.
Originally scheduled to take place at Independence Stadium, the event was relocated due to adverse weather conditions.
The ceremony was attended by invited guests only and taking place under the theme ‘Beyond 35: For a Prosperous Future.’ The Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, Frans Kapofi, and the Minister in the Presidency, Christine Hoebes, are presiding as directors of ceremony.
Nandi-Ndaitwah arrived in a baby-blue outfit to the sound of celebratory songs and ululations from the crowd.
The ceremony has drawn high-profile dignitaries, including 46 Very Very Important Persons (VVIPs) and 14 Heads of State. Among them are Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who will deliver the guest of honor speech, as well as South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Botswana’s President Duma Boko, Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, Angolan President João Lourenço, and Kenyan President William Ruto.
Additionally, six vice presidents and four former presidents, including South Africa’s Jacob Zuma and Thabo Mbeki, are in attendance. Former Namibian President Hifikepunye Pohamba and former First Lady Penehupifo Pohamba were also among the guests.
During the ceremony, Chief Justice Peter Shivute presented the symbols of power to President Nandi-Ndaitwah, officially marking her as the Commander-in-Chief of the Namibian Defence Force.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, followed by a celebratory lunch.
