MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The Ukrainian attacks were thwarted before the enemy crossed into the Russian territory by Russia's Sever (North) battlegroup, which used artillery and FPV drones, the Defense Ministry reported.
Kiev's forces attempted to penetrate into Russia's Belgorod Region on Tuesday, the Russian Defense Ministry said, adding that all five Ukrainian attacks were repelled.

"The Kiev regime tried to drive Ukrainian military units into Russian territory in the western part of the Belgorod region in the direction of the settlements of Demidovka and Priles'e in the morning (5:50 [Moscow time, 02:50 GMT]). The enemy carried out five attacks, the last of which took place from 17:30 to 18:45," the ministry said in a statement.

According to the ministry, the attacks were carried out "in order to create a negative background for the negotiations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump on the Ukraine settlement," which took place on Tuesday, and "to discredit the US president's peace initiatives."
The failed Ukrainian attempts involved up to 200 troops and 29 armored vehicles, including five tanks, the statement pointed out.

"The enemy suffered significant losses. Thus, the provocation by the Kiev regime on the eve of the Russian-American highest-level talks was thwarted," the ministry noted, adding that Ukraine's losses amounted to 60 troops, one tank, seven armored combat vehicles, and three engineering vehicles.

The ministry also said that 30 air and missile strikes, as well as 13 strikes by military aviation, a strike by the Iskander missile system and Tornado-S MLRS, two strikes by heavy flamethrower systems, and 40 FAB-500 aerial bombs were carried out on the uncovered Ukrainian forces' positions in a five- to six-mile zone in the Sumy region.

"The remaining [Ukrainian forces] have been dispersed, and the enemy has refused further attacks," the statement read.
