The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), as well as the process of African regional integration, must be approached as an "existential issue" like decolonization or apartheid, and then the initiatives will thrive, Nigeria's former Vice President Oluyemi Oluleke Osinbajo told Sputnik Africa.According to the speaker, such an approach to the AfCFTA, described as "the most important developmental project that Africa has ever undertaken," would bring "tremendous benefit" for all African nations, particularly for the younger generation.

While the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement presents a "tremendous opportunity," it must be "deliberately harnessed" and seen as "a political project," Nigeria's former vice president pointed out.
The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), as well as the process of African regional integration, must be approached as an "existential issue" like decolonization or apartheid, and then the initiatives will thrive, Nigeria's former Vice President Oluyemi Oluleke Osinbajo told Sputnik Africa.
"We must see the FTA [AfCFTA] and African integration in the same way that we approach decolonization, in the same way that we approach apartheid. It must be seen as an existential issue. And we think that if we approach it in that way, we will achieve the results," the ex-vice president noted.
According to the speaker, such an approach to the AfCFTA, described as "the most important developmental project that Africa has ever undertaken," would bring "tremendous
benefit" for all African nations, particularly for the younger generation.
"It is a situation where we find ourselves recognizing the critical importance of working together ensuring that small markets […] that you need to integrate those markets so that it becomes the promise, which is a market, which is the largest free trade area by a number of participating countries in the world and which combines a GDP of access of three trillion dollars," he explained.
