Africa's agribusiness sector is set for massive expansion, driven by population growth, rising food demand, and trade integration—with agro-processing, staple food production, and agritech value chains offering the highest returns.
With the African Continental Free Trade Area reshaping agriculture and fostering economic integration, the continent's agribusiness landscape is poised for unprecedented opportunities. Research by Research Desk Consulting Limited identifies key value chains like agro-processing and agritech as the most promising, with significant potential for high returns through value addition and innovation.
Dr. Kojo Ahiakpa, Team Lead and Agribusiness Advisor at Research Desk Consulting Limited, stressed that Africa's agricultural growth will be driven by value addition, innovation, and regional trade.
“The agribusiness sector on the continent has been registering remarkable growth over the past five to six years. With the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement, we are seeing greater market access not just within regional blocs, but across the entire continent. This is helping us add value to our produce and even access markets beyond Africa. Despite challenges like climate change, technology and innovation are reshaping commodity value chains and creating new opportunities for growth,” Dr. Ahiakpa explained.
